Biography
Jon Potter has been a lawyer, lobbyist, association founder and CEO, and passionate global advocate for innovation, innovators and entrepreneurs. For several decades Jon has promoted digital connectivity between creators and consumers that will efficiently measure consumer enjoyment and compensate creators accurately.
Growing up in New York, Jon worked on local and statewide political campaigns beginning at age 13. After graduating from NYU School of Law, Jon worked for two law firms and a consulting firm in Washington, DC. During most of that decade Jon advised and represented digital communications and health care innovators trying to surmount analog laws and business models that were effectively leveraged by entrenched business incumbents.
In 1998 Jon co-founded the Digital Media Association with a group of seven early Internet music and media companies. DiMA promoted and advocated in Congress and courts for the interests of Internet radio, digital distribution and subscription companies. Jon led DiMA through the industry’s transition from dozens of startups to industry leaders including Apple, Pandora, YouTube, Rhapsody and Netflix.
After two years of private consulting, Jon developed and co-founded the App Developers Alliance in January 2012. Jon built the Alliance into a global organization with $5M annual revenue, nearly 20 employees, and Board that combined app publisher startups, ad-tech innovators and global platforms like Google, Yahoo, Intel and Samsung.
Jon has testified in Congress and state legislatures several times; has authored op-eds in local, national and international publications; and has developed and managed several multi-million dollar advocacy campaigns. He is now consulting privately and spending time with family while thinking about the next wave of innovation, opportunity and risk.
